Welcome to Vernon Elementary School!    

My name is Susan Norris, the former Susan Lollar.  I was born in Vernon, Alabama.  As a child, I attended Vernon Elementary School and graduated from Lamar County High School in 1980.  In June of 1985 I graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (K-3).  That fall I started teaching kindergarten at Vernon Elementary.  In 1991, I earned a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Alabama. (My education may be divided but my heart belongs to Auburn.)  

I am married to Rodney Norris of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  I have two daughters.  My oldest, Anna, is a graduate of the University of North Alabama and is currently a Marine Biologist. Laura, my youngest, graduated from Troy University with a degree in Fine Art.  She is now serving in the United States Air Force. I am a super proud Mom! 

My hobbies include traveling, and reading.  My Husband and I love animals!  We now have five cats, three dogs, and one bunny (I am bunny sitting for my daughters.)  All of our pets are rescued. 

As I begin this school year, I can honestly say that I love teaching as much as I did when I began in 1985.  I have been truly blessed by God.  Mark Twain once said, “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”  I count it a joy to be a teacher of young children.  I believe Kindergarten is  magical, and I embrace each moment.
